While stitching and exposure blending techniques were relatively quickly integrated into my digital work flow, it was only during this session, well over three years since my first use of a DSLR camera that I began to experiment with motion blending. With this composition, I wanted to have the water flowing off Hannah’s body as the waves receded but because of how she was leaning into the rocks, every time a wave broke or receded, she was jostled by the water’s motion, leading to a blurry image. The solution was obvious: combine two images, one with a fast shutter speed of her face and body, and one with a slower shutter speed, to show the water pulling back off the rocks. The final result was exactly what I wished to portray in the final image.
