Even in a studio, with a full range of lights at my beck and call, I tend towards the simple - in this case, a single light, mimicking window light gave me exactly what I sought. I draw upon this approach often with multiple models - the low, angular light works well with repeating forms and, with this image, the deep shadow and shallow depth of field helps build a mystery to an image that is already complex in design.
