The first session with Brianna began with water nudes, working in the shallow lake. As is my usual approach, my first images focused on portraiture, working with the model’s face, and hoping to develop a comfort between the model and the process (i.e. having a camera pointed directly at their face). As the portraits with Brianna evolved however, I began to work more with the flow of her body, and asked her to look to the side, so the lines of her face mirrored that of her torso, emerging from the water. The use of a longer lens (equivalent to a 192mm lens on a 35mm camera) helped flatten the perspective of the scene and separate Brianna from the surroundings.
