It was surprisingly hard to insure that both the arch and the background were in focus; the afternoon was windy and in order to have enough depth of field (f/45) I needed to use a 1/4 of a second exposure. I spent several minutes waiting for the wind to drop, only to have a young tourist walk into the image…so I waited for him to leave, and then for the wind to drop. This little dance continued for several minutes, until finally the wind dropped, the tourists were nowhere to be seen, and the image was made.
