I think what makes this image come together for me is the single errant strand of Kylie’s hair. With the soft directional lighting, the face has a sculptural quality to it, but the breaking of the flow of Kylie’s hair by the curved lock is what continually captures my eye. After a couple of years of working with white sheets as a background indoors, in January 2004 I bought a large black sheet, both to help with removing reflections from walls during studio flash work and as a backdrop for available light work.
