The simpler the image, the less there is to distract the eye from the subject before the photographer. And often, a simple approach helps too. Outside, there is only one light-source, so it sometimes surprising to people when they moving into a studio setting, that mastering one light if the first, and most important part of the process. Once one light is mastered, everything else is just addition.
