Though I was not conscious of it at the time, I have no doubt that the roots of this image lie in the photo I made of Trav and Miranda on New Year’s Day, 2002. The lines of the torsos and the rich description of the light make it a very different image, but the two certainly come from the same place. Because I was using slow speed film, rated at EI 12, even with studio flash, I had to use a wide aperture, the male torso, while obvious and clear, has a delicate softness to it that plays well of the detail in the female torso.
This image was included in 2003’s Portfolio XV.
