If it weren’t for the demi-lune, the spiral stairways in Fort Warren would defiantly rank as the find of the year, architecturally speaking. Unlike all the other spiral stairs I’ve encountered to date (at Popham, Knox, Warren and Taber), the stairs at Warren were constructed of three-step blocks, the underside of which were carved smooth - thus producing a smooth, sweeping ceiling above the spiral stairs. I spent easily two hours photographing within the three spiral stairways in Warren, and still feel I didn’t capture all the possibilities.
