When I first began working in the graveyard, I was a little disappointed with the dull, featureless sky. By the end of the hour or so that I photographed, however, I was feeling quite different, having produced images that took advantage of the white canvas, and playing with spatial relationships like this, with a small cross being framed by the light tree behind, all lying on a pale, stark landscape and bleak featureless sky. Had the day been as I’d hoped, with blue sky and fluffy white clouds, the final composition would have looked very different.
