The trees that line the New Brunswick rivers are all subjected to a flood cycle every spring and therefore are by design strong rooted and hardy. With this particular tree, while the main trunk was perhaps 20 cm across, the base of the tree supported another ten or more smaller trunks, giving it a massive root-base which was perfect for Elisabeth to curl up on.
