York Redoubt has long been a favourite space of mine, dating back well before photographing. As a child I would romp about the fort, playing on the massive canons on the gun line, and reveling in all the space to run free. The Halifax Defence complex was the first focus of my cameras too, before I began working with the Nude, and for almost a decade from 1987 onwards, I’d continually return to spaces like York Redoubt, documenting the architecture and remains of these magnificent spaces.
